Iryna Biloborodova

Iryna Biloborodova, an artist from Kyiv, Ukraine, was a fellow at Künstlerhof Frohnau from September to December 2023 as part of the Artists at Risk program, funded by the Goethe-Institut. During this period, she produced a series of photographs.

“Most of the time I photograph people I know personally, with whom I am friends, collaborate, or live alongside. Sometimes I simply document what is there; at other times I offer to immerse myself in what I call the ‘naked photo experience’, a specific format of photography. The residency experience at Künstlerhof Frohnau gave me the opportunity to delve into themes of vulnerability, communication, and finding solutions. Living in the same house with artists who were completely different from one another brought both inspiration and challenges. It is wonderful to be in a place where no sirens are heard in the middle of the night, but my heart is still drawn to Kyiv, a city full of people I love.”
